Castle and a Fortrees in Nowy Wisnicz

 Castle and a Fortress in Nowy Wisnicz - lies just about 4 miles away from Bochnia, beautifully located in the Wisnicko - Lipnicki Park area, surrounded by magnificent landscape. This place has many historical objects to offer you: Antique Market with it’s Town Hall and two imposing monuments of Jan Matejko and Stanislaw Lubomirski. Nearby you’ll find the Kmitow-Lubomirski Castle aka Fortezza in Palazzo - palace in the middle of the fortress. The oldest part of the castle was built in the XIV century. Today this building is a mixture of architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods, and serves as the museum. Near the castle is located convent of Discalced Carmelites (1620-1635) surrounded by it’s fortifications. The monastery and the castle both had defensive functions. After the monastery was resolved in the eighteenth century it had been turned into a prison which is working there to this day. Wis'nickie prison is now one of the most severe in Poland.
