Historic Churches

 St. James the Apostol’s Church in Brzesko

goes back to the origins of the city ( fourteenth century ). Apparently the first church was erected about 1400, of which the Jan Dlugosz mentions in his chronicles. The first stone church was established in 1447 as a foundation of Jasko - the grandson of Spytek of Melsztyn. Church’s equipment comes from the eighteenth-twentieth century with it’s main wooden alter from the early twenthieth.

 St.Nicolas of Bochnia Basilica

is 190 feet long and 82 feet wide.Only seven years after the end of construction (which took place in 1440 years) it has been incinerated in a tragic fire of the city.In 1655 the church burned down again, this time in the fire set by the Swedish army, which occupied Bochnia at that time. After that the temple was being rebuilt for several years with a huge financial aid by King John Casimir.

 Church. under the invocation of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lapczyca

was erected from the foundation of King Casimir the Great in 1340. For over 150 years there’s been a coming of pilgrims to this church celebrated in mid-July in remembrance of the miraculous healing of the city from the plaque of cholera.

 Baroque Church. under the invocation of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Chelm

was built in the years 1738-1749. In the main altar is the image of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception with the coat of arms Boz.ogrobców order, which dates from the eighteenth century. The stone font comes from the seventeenth century. The bell tower located next to the church has four bells, the eldest of the 1678.

 St. Leonard’s Church in Lipnica Murowana

inscribed in 2003 on the List of World Cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO. There is a baroque pulpit of 1711, and the group of sculptures placed on the Crucifixion beam rainbow. Valuable items of equipment are also Baroque paintings from the eighteenth century, baroque-folk candlesticks and playing to this day XVII century, portable pipe organ.
